Well, here it is. That dreaded “first post” on a fresh blog site. I won’t tell you how many times I edited this post before I finally agreed to let it go live. And by agreed I mean I finally decided to stop tweaking it and try and forget it exists.
This porch is always open if you want to submit a letter, just go to the “Write a Letter” page. But for my own sanity, I am going to start by publishing posts bi-weekly on Saturday mornings probably at 7:00 AM. That way, it hits an inbox (if you subscribe) right away in the morning of the weekend. Read it whatever day you want, but I think for the sake of consistency, this is going to be the plan.
Now, to the real reason we are here: you.
If you’re reading this, curious as to what all of this might be, join the club. You can read about my vision here but really what I want to talk to you about today is just you.
I mean it when I say I have coffee, tea, beer, wine, vodka, tequila, whiskey, rum, weed, and probably some other substance that I’m not remembering. For legal purposes, I won’t offer you an illegal drug (minus weed, they just need to legalize that shit already). But I want you to be able to relax however works best for you. And that is healthy(ish) for you.
My story is long and complicated. But I want to learn about you. I won’t push for you to open up, but something brought you here. And I’m so, so glad you found this place to rest. Because that’s all that this porch is meant for. For you to find rest. And maybe to realize that you aren’t crazy for feeling the way you’re feeling.
I’m writing this months in advance of the site going live. The legal professional in me hates leaving things to the last minute. But right now I’m sitting at my computer, listening to Reba’s discography from my “Mama” playlist on Apple Music (it’s private, sorry). And I’m just thinking about how insane my life has been in the three years since I found out I was getting divorced. Actually, today marks three years since I lost my gallbladder. It’s also the day I found out I was going to be at the Eras Tour in Toronto (for what was originally planned to be closing night, but hey, we got floor seats). Crazy to believe it’s been three years.
But we will get to all of that in time. For now? For today? I’m just Elizabeth. Or El. Or whatever you want to call me. I’m just a friend who offered you a place to sit. And I’m so happy you agreed to.
